PURPOSE:To receive the reaction in the axial direction of a pipe to be tested with a tension bar and make the entire part smaller in size by inserting the tension bar into said pipe, and supporting the cross heads engaged to both ends of the pipe with said bar. CONSTITUTION:The hydraulic mechanisms 19 of both cross heads 11, 11a are operated to turn and raise clamping jaws 17, and hydraulic mechanisms 24 are operated to slide movable members 23 outward. Next, a pipe 10 is inserted between the cross heads 11 and 11a, and the members 23 are slided inward to hold the pipe 10 in a prescribed position via a packing 26. A pinion 35 is rotated to advance a tension bar 31 until it penetrates through the pipe 10 and its leading end projects from the cross head 11, then the jaws 17 are engaged to engaging parts 32, 33 by the mechanisms 19. Prescribed high pressure water is supplied for a prescribed time into the space between the pipe 10 and the tension bar 31 from a water supply line 15, and hydraulic tests are carried out. |
