A device with feedback serves for precise electronic control of the fuel injection in an internal combustion engine (13). In this the actual lift (L) of the valve needle (16) and the actual injection pressure (P) in the at least one injection valve (12) are determined and from these two values the actual value for the fuel injection quantity is determined in real time. In addition, the values of characteristic operating variables of the internal combustion engine (13) are determined, that is, for example, the speed (26, 27) and the engine load (Sc2'), and from this a reference value for the fuel injection quantity is determined. On the basis of the difference between reference and actual value, the reference value determined for the fuel injection quantity is then corrected, thereby ensuring that the quantity of fuel to be fed to the internal combustion engine (13) can be adhered to very accurately, thereby resulting in optimum operating performance. <IMAGE>
