摘要 PURPOSE:To achieve clear printing on a bond paper being regarded as a rough paper, by smoothening the surface of a transfer sheet through uniformly filling recessed parts of the surface by a heat-fusible substance constituting an ink layer on a base, according to an increase in the volume of heat-expandable microcapsules contained in the heat-fusible substance. CONSTITUTION:Heating of a printing part by a thermal head 11 is conducted in the condition where a thermal transfer material is set in contact with a relatively rough surface of a sheet 9 on a platen 10. A heat-fusible substance layer 6 of the thermal transfer material is melted, and simultaneously, microcapsules 7 start thermal expansion, accompanied by an increase in the total volume of the layer. Then, the layer 6 is expanded in the directions of the peripheries of the microcapsuels 7, is brought into contact with ridge parts and bottom parts of fibers constituting projected or recessed parts of the surface of the sheet 9, and is deprived of heat, whereby the expansion is stopped, and the layer 6 is solidified. Generally, a relatively rough surface has recesses and projections of 10-20 mum. The increase in the volume of the layer 6 continues until the expanded microcapsules 7 make contact with the surface of a paper, resulting in that the recessed or projected parts of various sizes are efficiently filled by the layer 6, and the surface is smoothened.
