The solenoid (19) operated modulating valve operates in conjunction with skid sensors and closes off the air supply to the brake valve as well as venting the input line. At the same time the pressure level at which the modulation occurs is stored in a sprung chamber (45) to provide a reference point for the next brake cycle. The system incorporates a pneumatic memory so that previous pressure levels are not exceeded, with the successive pressure peaks reducing in a controlled pattern.
