<p>Silica bricks for coke oven lining are protectively treated by first impregnating the bricks with a neutral or acid tar. At least the oven-facing side of the bricks is then either treated with a tar-solvent, e.g. CCl4, or tempered, and finally sealed with a quartz material compsn. Neutral or acid tar use prevents brick attack. Tar-solvent treatment or tempering improves adhesion of lining. The brick resists premature wear on charging the coke oven with flash pitch. C infiltration into brick is prevented.</p> |
