摘要 Faster and more efficient heat transmission between an electrical skin effect current heat generating unit (10) and a surface (33) to be heated is achieved by utilizing convective as well as conductive transfer of heat therebetween. The unit (10) includes an elongated channel (12) having an open face covered by a coextensive ferromagnetic plate (11) secured to the edges thereof by staggered stitch welds (13) to form an elongate hollow element housing a freely movable insulated conductor (21). The inner surfaces of the hollow element define an air space surrounding the conductor (21). One end (19) of the conductor (21)is connected to one pole (27) of an AC source (16), the other end (22) thereof is connected to the far end (23) of the hollow element (10) and the near end (24) of the hollow element (10) is connected to the other pole (28) of the AC source (16). Channel (12) and plate (11) are of such thickness that the alternating current is confined to the inner surfaces thereof when the conductor (21) is energized by source (16). The welds securing plate (11) to channel (12) provide staggered slits (31) along the length of the hollow element enabling substantial traverse air flow freely therethough across the conductor (21) and internal surfaces of the hollow element with resultant convective heating transfer of the generated heat as well as conductive heat flow through channel (12) and plate (11). Should the surface (33) being heated be ferromagnetic, the plate (11) may be dispensed with and the surface (33) utilized to form the plate portion of the hollow element (Fig. 7). The unit (10) and surface being heated (33) can be surrounded by thermal insulation (36) applied in such manner as to form an open space (37) for circulation of the convected heat.
