1-Substituted-2-aryl-5-nitroimidazoles, 1-substituted-2-aryl-4-nitroimidazoles and related isoindoles and dihydroisoquinolines are prepared. The compounds are utilized as antiprotozoals, antibacterials, anthelmintics and the like. Further, the novel nitroimidazoles useful as intermediates in the preparation of the active parasiticides are prepared.
