PURPOSE:To mass-produce a battery of high capacity by molding mixture powder of amalgamated and a bonding agent in a negative electrode vessel which is also a terminal under pressure. CONSTITUTION:In a negative electrode vessel 2 which is a terminal and a sealing plate, mixture powder 3 prepared by previously mixing amalgamated zinc and a bonding agent such as carboxymethyl cellulose is placed, and pressed with a pressure 4 to form a negative electrode moulded article. It is suitable to feed negative electrode mixture powder in an amount of 30-80% of the inner capacity of the negative electrode vessel at a pressure of 10-500kg/cm<2>. The negative electrode mixture powder is mainly composed of amalgamated and it contains 0.5-6% by weight, based on the whole amount of the mixture powder, of a bonding agent. Then, after electrolyte such as potassium hydroxide is injected, a battery is made. Thus a lot of high capacity batteries can be produced by increasing the amount of lead-containing negative electrode. |
