PURPOSE:To control the outside diameter of an oxide powder rod with high accuracy by setting a light projector and a light receiver at both sides of the rod correspondingly to the powder depositing face of the lower end of the rod, detecting the position of the powder depositing face with beams of light from the projector to the receiver, and inputting the detection signal in a rotator moving system to control the upward movement of the rotator. CONSTITUTION:A rotator 1 is rotated with a driving system 3 such as a motor, and oxide powder produced with a burner 2 is stuck to the lower end of the rotator 1 and deposited. In synchronism with the powder depositing speed the rotator 1 is moved upward to form an oxide powder rod A at the lower end, and the rod A is grown in the longitudinal direction. At this time, a light projector 5 and a light receiver 6 are set at both sides of the rod A correspondingly to the powder depositing face (a) of the rod A, the position of the face (a) is detected with beams L of light between the projector 5 and the receiver 6, and by inputting the detection signal in the driving system 3 for the rotator 1, the upward movement of the rotator 1 is controlled. |
