PURPOSE:To facilitate discharge start, reduce the restart time, and decrease the voltage required for the restart by providing a heating substance on a part of at least one-side electrode. CONSTITUTION:An appropriate amount of chemical substances such as scandium and sodium is sealed together with a required amount of mercury gas and start supporting gas in the quartz glow tube 1 for a 400W metal halide lamp which is provided by arranging main electrodes 2 and 3 on both ends and connecting a filament 5 consisting of treated tungusten to the main electrode. The main electrodes 2 and 3 are connected to a lighting device 12 through a leads 8 and 9. The filament 5 connected to the main electrode 2 is connected to the lighting device 12 through a lead 11. When the mercury vapor reaches the pressure exceeding 100 Torr and the glow tube 1 is started, the filament 5 is heated above 900 deg.C. |
