[Also in Division C3] A polyamide section is made continuously by feeding a solid polymerizable mixture M comprising lactam(s) L, a basic catalyst C and an activator A to a pressure-generator G which delivers M through the feed-opening F of a single-screw extruder E, under a pressure P# the dynamic pressure generated by E; M is melted and polymerized in E at above the m.p. of the polyamide which is extruded as a melt. M may be fused in G or before or after entering F. G may be a single or double screw extruder or a gear-pump. L may contain e.g. 4-11 C atoms. P may be 4-8 atmos. C may be an alkali metal alcoholate, carboxylate, borohydride, or lactamate. A may be isocyanate or lactam-isocyanate addition products.</p> |
