FIRE-RESISTANT ELECTRICAL WIRING DISTRIBUTING FLOOR STRUCTURE AND METHOD

A floor structure comprising a metal subfloor including metal cellular units providing plural enclosed cells; housings associated with certain of the cells, each adapted to provide future access to different electrical services at one location in the floor structure; and a covering layer of monolithic concrete covering the subfloor and the insert. Activating means is provided establishing access to the enclosed cells through the housing without significantly reducing the desired fire endurance of the floor structure. A layer of fireproofing material is provided in confronting relation with the lower surface of the subfloor in at least that minimum thickness which would be required with the concrete intact to provide the floor structure with a desired fire endurance. A method is disclosed for establishing access to the enclosed cells through the insert while maintaining the fire endurance capability of the floor structure.
