PURPOSE:To increase the reproduced picture quality through binarization, by detecting the video information of line read in through scanning and sampling in video element unit if it is a character row or a part between lines, and outputting the line in white level if the part is between lines. CONSTITUTION:An input video signal BS read in through scanning and sampling toward main scanning direction x and sub-scanning direction y for an original picture G in video element unit is compared with a fixed threshold value S1 at an analog comparator 1 of a character low detection section A and converted into a binary signal. The integrated output of the synchronized signal with the scanning of one line toward x is obtained, this output is compared with a fixed threshold value S2 at a digital comparator 3 to detect if the line is on the character row and a signal D being 1 at character rows a1... and being 0 at part between lines b1... is outputted. At an analog comparator 13 of a binary processing section C, the threshold level signals Sl are compared with the signal D for the set section B, and the part between lines are outputted compulsively with white level according to the determined reference to increase the quality of playback picture. |
