1505947 Heat exchanger casings; surface condensers HOECHST AG 10 Sept 1976 [17 Sept 1975] 37618/76 Heading F4S In a heat exchanger in which a bundle of heat exchange tubes (not shown) extend through a shell 1 and are connected at their ends to headers secured at the ends of the shell, the shell comprises two axially spaced portions defining therebetween a gap bridged by a cagelike structure consisting of rods 8 joined at their ends (e.g. by welding; see Figs. 3 and 4) to the shell portions, and extending through rings 9 welded to the rods 8, the said gap and the cage-like structure 8, 9 being encircled by a further shell member 10 eccentrically positioned with respect to the median longitudinal axis of the tube bundle, the member 10 being connected by radial walls 5 to the other shell members and having therein an inlet 6 and an outlet 7 for the shell-side fluid. In use, as a vapour condenser, coolant passes to and from the tubes via inlet 2 and outlet 3 in header 11. Vapour enters the shell via inlet 6 and condensate discharges at 7. Non- condensible gases discharge at 4. |
