An electrophotographic element consists of an electrically conductive base, a charge-generating layer and a charge-transporting layer. The photoconductive charge-generating layer does not require a binder matrix. It consists essentially of organic dyes from the group of monoazo dyes, disazo dyes or derivatives of squaric acid, which are soluble in a solvent containing a primary organic amine. For producing the element, the charge-generating material is dissolved in a solvent containing a primary organic amine and the solution is applied to the base. The charge-transporting layer then goes on top of the dried layer. Polymers can also already be introduced at the same time into the solution. |
