<p>A valve assembly for use in a system carrying radioactive slurry. The valve assembly consists of a valve body with a bore, an inlet and an outlet port communicating with the bore; a valve member having a passage extending therethrough. The valve member is received in the bore of the valve body and is rotatable between a first position in which the passage of the valve member is aligned with the inlet and outlet ports of the valve body providing fluid communication between the inlet and outlet ports of the valve body and a second position in which the valve member shuts off or blocks the above fluid communication. The valve body and valve member are removable as a unit from the valve housing via a tubular extension which extends from the bore in the valve body to a location above and remote from the valve housing. This extension provides for the removal of the valve body and valve member as a unit from the valve housing and subsequent replacement thereof by a new unit or the old unit after repairs have been made thereon.</p> |
