PURPOSE:To precisely discriminate the pattern of a part whose character recognition is difficult and improve the accuracy of character recognition by encoding the length of the features of a stroke sequence obtained by tracing the outlines of a character, discriminating the category close to the character pattern and adding a stroke sequence of 1 bit unit to the part whose discrimination is difficult. CONSTITUTION:A character category select circuit A recognizes an input character pattern LP, compares the pattern with the beforehand prepared category, selects the similar category and inputs a discrimination signal LM taken out from a feature extraction discrimination circuit B in a stroke sequence decision circuit C. The outline of the pattern LP is traced by an outline feature tracing circuit D, the extending direction of the stroke sequence of the outline is discriminated and a stroke sequence signal La with a bit unit is outputted and inputted to a category discrimination circuit F through encoding circuit E. A specification signal Lr decided by the circuit C is fed to the circuit F to discriminate a category close to the pattern LP and add the stroke sequence with 1 bit unit to a part whose discrimination is difficult, discriminating the pattern LP precisely. |
