The conveying device (1) has four tine shafts (14) which are arranged in pairs diametrically opposite one another in rotary bearings. The tine shafts (14) are equipped with rigid tines (4) which partly come into operative connection first against a first and then against a second cutter row (9) and (10). Welded to the tine shafts (14) are control arms (16a) provided, at the front, with control rollers (17a) which are positively guided in a slotted mechanism formed by a control disc (18). The control disc (18) is arranged relative to the circle of rotation (A) in such a way that the guide portion (B) is located within the latter and the guide portion (C) is located outside the latter. In the part following the guide portion (B), namely in the portion (C), the tines (4) begin to withdraw (E2) from the conveying channel (5). There then follows a spirally narrowing return path of the tines (4) which are guided at (E1) again into the engaged position. Longer conveying and cutting portions, together with a simple and largely wear-free construction, are thereby obtained. <IMAGE>
