NEW MATERIAL:A phenylacetic acid derivative expressed by formula I [R<1> is H or lower alkyl; R<2> is H, lower alkyl or allyl; M is COOH, CONH2, CONHOH or COOR<3> (R<3> is lower alkyl); X and Y are H or fluorine]. EXAMPLE:6-Hydroxy-3-biphenylacetic acid. USE:An analgesic agent, anti-inflammatory agent and antipyretic agent having a powerful effect and slight side effects. PROCESS:A compound expressed by formula II is hydrolyzed with an alkaline metallic hydroxide, e.g. sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide, in water or an alcoholic solvent, e.g. methanol, at 15-150 deg.C for 1-15hr under refluxing to give the compound expressed by formula I. |
