The device protects pipe ends against mechanical damage, and comprises a plastics cap with parts bearing against the inside and outside surface and joined together by a base portion. The outer part consists of an outer sleeve (3), concentric to which is an inner sleeve (4) forming the inner one. There are one or more bosses (8) on the inner sleeve, bearing against the inside of the pipe wall (7). The boss can extend all the way round, with line contact against the wall of the pipe (1), and there can be ribs at intervals extending from the free end of the inner sleeve to the boss.
