In a screening apparatus for paper making stock incorporating a cylindrical screen member (15) provided with circular screening perforations (16), the screen member (15) is provided with multiple bars (40) extending generally axially thereof in circumferentially spaced relation along the inlet side thereof to define with the adjacent surface of the screen member (15) a series of pockets. The radial dimension of these bars (40) is such that the bars occupy a sufficient portion of the distance between the screen member and the rotating vanes (35) in the supply chamber (17) of the screen to interrupt the circulation of the stock adjacent the inlet side of the screen member (15, 60) and to thereby develop turbulence in the stock within each pocket. |
