The mountaineer's boot is of a one piece moulded plastics construction. Upright walls (7) and cover walls (3,9) are provided in the heel and toe zones, the upright walls in the toe zone bearing an external strip (13) of non-skid material. The non-skid strip (13) extends over the full length of the sole (5), or may extend along the perimeter of the toe zone only. The non-skid strip may be of rubber with a serrated (17) external face, may be set flush in a recess (15,16) provided in the upright walls, and may extend over the perimeter of the bottboot.
