1277565 Coated TiO 2 BRITISH TITAN Ltd 19 April 1971 [18 March 1970] 13168/70 Heading C1N TiO 2 particles are coated first with hydrous Al oxide and then with an alkyd resin. The resin coating is produced by mixing the TiO 2 with a solution of the resin, e.g. in xylene, toluene or white spirit, and then, without separation, drying the mixture, e.g. in a band or spray drier. The product may contain 0À5-20% resin and 0À01-10% Al oxide, by wt. of TiO 2 . The first coating may also contain a hydrous oxide of Zr, Ti, Ce, Zn or Si, and/or a phosphate. The TiO 2 may be anatase or rutile and may be made by the sulphate or chloride process. The resin is preferably non-drying. The product may be fluid energy milled. |
