For a process for depositing a continuously supplied fibre tow into a spinning can, in which the fibre tow is guided by a thread guide rotating on a horizontal circular path at the speed of the tow and the tow turns formed, circular as seen in projection, are made to fall freely into a round rotating spinning can, it is proposed, according to the main patent (Patent Application Bag. 1185), to deform the tow turns by means of shaping devices in such a way that elongate curves closed on themselves are formed. Such curves are symmetrical curves contracted, for example, approximately elliptically, ovally or on both sides (Cassini's curves). The advantage in comparison with a depositing of circular tow turns is the more uniform depositing of the fibre tow on the depositing surface and the better run-off properties when the fibre tow is extracted from the spinning can. According to the additional Patent Application, it is proposed to traverse the tow turns (41), falling into the spinning can, to and fro in such a way that each tow turn (41) always rests with a first portion against the inner circumference of the spinning can and the remaining portions of the tow turn (41) are moved to and fro (pivoting movement 22 about the vertical pivot axis 38) between the circumference of the spinning can and a region at a shorter distance from the centre point (42) of the spinning can. As a result of a traversing of this type, a highly uniform depositing of the tow turns (41) on the depositing surface takes place. <IMAGE>
