The machine has a single/column/stand on which a top knife beam is guided vertically up and down, and a bottom knife beam below a gap in the table, each having individual knives automatically equalising the splitting pressure. The top beam (2) has a safety device comprising triangular-section strips (8) sliding against or clear of the flanks of the individual knives (5), and mounted against the horizontal lower surface (7) of the beam. The table is flat, and is adjustable for height in relation to the bottom knife beam.
