The inner surface of the oven muff is coated with a layer providing a catalytic self-cleaning effect. The inner chamber walls (2-6) are made of corrosion-resistant material coated with an enamel layer burnt below 300 deg.C, this enamel layer having the catalytic self-cleaning properties. The side wall may have rib-shaped stampings for insertion of the food supports, which are also coated with a self-cleaning enamel layer. In this manner the production of the oven is simplified, while providing robust design for careless handling. Fire-aluminised sheet metal or steel sheet with corrosion protection is used as basic material. The enamel may be a mixture of a catalyst and a sodium silicate binder, applied directly onto the corrosion-resistant sheet metal. The enamel burning takes place at temperatures between 100 to 200 deg.C.
