<p>The engine has an annular channel between an inner cylinder (3) and an outer cylinder (8). The annular channel has a tapered intake (7). Three impellers (9,10,11) mounted axially in line in the inner cylinder have axial flow blades projecting into the annulus. The two outer ones (9,11) rotate in one direction and the central one (10) in the opposite direction and each rotates at twice the speed of the preceeding one. The impellers compress air into an annular convergent divergent nozzle (19) from which it enters the combustion chamber (24) at supersonic velocity. A profiled insert (22) cam be moved axially in the throat of the nozzle to control the speed.</p> |
