The float (1) of the power system cannot change its horizontal position in relation to the mainland, sea or river bed, ship, or float frame. Its movement freedom in the vertical direction is not limited. The vertical motions of the float are exploited by appropriate mechanisms of a design such that they are not affected by the wave movement. The exploitation platform is preferably rotatable or vertically movable in such a manner that even with stationary mechanisms matching to the wave movement or to the tide can be attained. Typically, the extracted power can be used for water craft drive. During storms the vertical stroke of the float may be limited. Only one of both vertical motions of the float (up or down) may be used for energy generation. Several wave driven mechanisms may be combined to form a power plant, and drive a generator (10).
