A process for preparing N-chloroimides comprising contacting the corresponding imide with molecular chlorine under substantially anhydrous conditions in the presence of an epoxy compound and a tertiary amine. The novel N-chloroimide N,N min -dichloro-bicyclo[2.2.2]oct-7-ene-2,3,5,6-tetracarboxylic-2,3,5,6-diimid e is prepared. |
