PURPOSE:To facilitate the control of discharging of ink droplets and stopping thereof by a method wherein an ink discharging port is placed in a space where a change of pressure gradient is present due to an abrupt deflection of an airflow so that the pressure gradient generated at a liquid meniscus is changed. CONSTITUTION:By using a pressure regulating valve 60 or 61, a pressure balance is provided such that the meniscus formed at point O is neither retracted nor split into droplets when no electrical signal 21 is applied. When an electrical signal 21 is applied, the pressure gradient at the point O is increased to exceed the holding force DELTAPl provided by the surface tension of the ink, so that the meniscus is broken into the ink droplets, which are discharged through an air discharging port 13. In the ink jet recorder of such construction, the printing speed is determined by the mechanical vibrating capability, the flight of ink droplets is stable and the flying speed is high. In addition, the amount of the ink droplets discharged can be controlled by the magnitude of changes in the spacing between the ink discharging port 16 and the air discharging port 13. |
