Tobacco is to be dried in such a way that not only the moisture of the tobacco, but also the temperature of the tobacco are kept at least approximately constant. It is proposed, for this purpose, on the one hand to control the moisture of the tobacco by controlling the temperature of the hot air used for drying, as a function of the final moisture of the tobacco, and on the other hand to control a further variable of the hot air as a function of the final temperature of the tobacco.
