The self-rescue abseiling equipment is particularly for use in case of fire, automatically giving a predetermined lowering speed independent of the suspended load. Its housing (4) has an eye (5) for the attachment of the load, also a brake lever (11) on a shaft (12) and with arms of different lengths, the shorter one having a brake surface (13). A pivoting block (18) also has a brake surface (20) facing that on the lever, the rope (1) running between them. The longer lever arm (15) acts as a deflector for the rope.
