1372236 Processing 3D data CONTINENTAL OIL CO 2 Oct 1971 [5 Oct 1970] 36222/71 Heading G4A A multiprogrammed data processing system in conjunction with an output plotter is arranged to process three-dimensional data for output in the form of a contour map. The processing system includes a central processor with internal core storage, external disc and tape backing stores, and I/O units such as a punched card reader. The programs used include an executive program which is initially loaded into the core store and which selects one of a number of operational programs stored in the backing store, causes the selected program to overwrite the executive in the core, the executive having been copied into the backing store. When the selected program has been executed it is overwritten by the executive which is brought back into the core storage to select the next operational program. Two operational programs may be linked so that the first, A, calls the second, B, into the core. When B finishes a return is made to A and subsequently to the executive. The input data may relate to geophysical parameters and may be in one of two basic forms, viz. regular and irregular. Regular data consists of specified Z co-ordinates each corresponding to a point on a defined two dimensional X, Y grid. Irregular data is processed by an appropriate "gridding" program to convert the data to regular data. A program is provided to form contours from the data. The contours are plotted by the output plotter and may be displayed on a C.R.T. |
