Plasticising of plastics supplied as granulated solid to an extruder in which they are plasticised and finally discharged, the heat for plasticising being at least partly supplied by heat of shearing, with the improvement whereby the production of heat of shearing is independent of the conveying motion and the temperature of the plastic material is controlled additionally by a low-inertia heater particularly a dielectric heater supplying heat to the stream of plastic uniformly over its cross-section. |
