In the prodn. of acetylene monoalcohols by reacting (substd.) acetylene with carbonyl cpds. in the presence of anion exchangers contg. quat. ammonium gps. and of a N cpd. of gen formula NR3 (I) (in which the R gps. independently are H or an aliphatic gp. or two R gps. together with the adjacent N atom form a heterocycle) and/or a dialkyl sulphoxide, as in present patent, a cpd. of formula (I) is used in which the 3 R gps. together with the adjacent N atom form a heterocycle.
