STABILIZATION OF CATION EXCHANGE RESIN USED IN PRECOAT FILTER

A method for substantially stabilizing a powdered cation exchange resin containing free acid leachables for use in precoat filters comprises scavenging the acid leachables by combining the cation exchange resin with a gel-type anion exchange resin having a relatively low degree of crosslinking and a relatively high moisture content and grinding the resulting resin combination to form a powder having a particle size with a U.S. mesh number from about 30 mesh to about 400 mesh.
