The device comprises used tyres (4) arranged against each other around a metal cylindrical tube (2). The tube (2) is filled with light concrete (3). The used tyres (4) are filled with a low density elastic material (10). The portion (4a) of the tyres (4) adjacent to the tube (2) is sealed by a flexible ring (5). The tube (2) is closed at its ends by protruding flanges (6, 7) which hold the tyre assembly (4) tight against each other. Utilisation to protect hulls of ships during their drawing alongside a quay.
