Automobile distribution panel multilayer flexible circuit interconnect - uses conducting plug inserted into window formed by precut flaps in printed circuit layers and rigid insulating upper and lower supports

The interconnector may be used in making distribution panels to ease vehicle wiring installations. A stack of 125 micron thick Mylar (RTM) flexible printed circuits is sandwiched between two rigid plates of nylon or polypropylene. The layers are interconnected by male plugs introduced into precut and aligned windows in the layers which hinge against the thickness of the lower rigid support. One edge of the lower supports is extended downwards to form a platform against which to press the flaps. The window in the upper rigid layer also has a downward protrusion which hinges the flexible layers and passes through the larger window in the lower layer providing a space for the plug to enter and effectively a female socket. The protrusions and the male plug extend to the same level beneath the support. At least one of the protrusions are tapered to make the socket more elastic. Conductive tracks are precut to utilise the whole of the plug for interconnection and to partially overlap. The plugs may consist of spade connection links, reversible fusible bridges or device terminations.
