<p>The winding handle (2) for manually operated winching or lifting gear incorporates a safety device for protection against excessive loads. The handle has a boss with a hole through it, to fit over an intermediate cylinder (3) with a square hole through it to fit over the square end (Ba) of the winding shaft (B). This cylinder fits inside a boss (1) on the end of a locking arm (1c) with a hole in its end, fitting over a peg (Aa) projecting from the frame (A). The whole assembly is secured by a pin (6) through the end of the winding shaft. Thus a spring (4) is retained inside an annular gap between the inner boss (1) and the cylinder. The face of the boss on the handle has two projecting locking surfaces, and the outer end of the cylinder has two similar surfaces so that two gaps are formed to retain the ends of the spring. The locking arm boss incorporates grooves to fit the coils of the spring, and the whole system acts as a brake.</p> |
