A vibration-measuring transducer for unusual vibrations of a machine tool has a piezoelectric vibration-detecting element (A), a preamplifier (B) with a gain-setting knob (C), a comparator (D) which has a level-setting knob (E), a monostable multivibrator (F) which has a setting knob (G) for the pulse width, a presettable counter (H) with a switch (K) for the preset values, a flip-flop (L) for storing signals, a signal-amplifying amplifier (M) and an output circuit (N). By mounting the vibration-measuring transducer on a grinding machine, a lathe (turning) machine, a machine with rolling-contact bearings, a planing machine and/or a drilling (boring) machine, or by mounting only a piezoelectric vibration-detecting element on the machine and by arranging the other components at a point provided outside the machine tool, vibrations which are generated during the processing of the machine are tapped by the comparator as a high or low signal, and an alarm is given when such vibration reaches the preset value of the counter. The result of this is that the rotation or the movement of a tool is terminated, or the feed of the workpiece is halted and/or that the high plunge-cut (infeed) speed of the grinding head is changed to an appropriate feed rate for raw treatment. <IMAGE>
