Each profile piece has a stem used as a tongue to engage a groove on the next, and is fitted on an edge of each panel-type element of sheet metal, plastics or similar, for cladding walls or ceilings. When the screws are loosened, individual panels can be slid out of engagement and replaced. The panels (2) may be self-supporting. The groove (11) engaged by the stem piece (12) of one panel, is located at the abutting edge of the next panel (3). It can be in the form of a U-profile, open in the direction of the wall plane. Sealing (10) can be provided at these joints.
