A compound of the formula

and its pharmaceutically acceptable salts is prepared by hydrolysis of 1-benzoyl-4-(di-n-propyl) amino-1, 2, 2a, 3, 4, 5-hexahydrobenz(cd)indole and the subsequent oxidation of 4-(di-n-propyl)amino-1, 2, 2a, 3, 4, 5-hexahydrobenz(cd)indole.
The compounds are useful as prolactin inhibitors and in the treatment of Parkinsonism.
