PURPOSE:To obtain sufficient forecasting effect for a picture of a mixture of a halftone photograph and characters, by obtaining a decoding output by exclusively ORing a forecast error signal, obtained by converting a decoded error signal according a forecast value, and the output of a forecasting device. CONSTITUTION:An encoded signal applied to a terminal 41 is decoded into an error signal E by a decoder 42. This signal E is converted into a forecast error signal Y and a forecast selection signal M1 by a selection-signal generating circuit 4b according to forecast values P1 and P2. This signal Y is exclusively ORed by an exclusive OR circuit 5a1 with the forecast values P1 and P2 outputted from forecasting devices 3a1 and 3a2, thereby generating decoded signals X1 and X2. Further, a multiplexer 6a selects a sampled-value signal X from the signals X1 and X2 according to the signal M1, and the selected signal is outputted from a terminal 43. |
