<p>A screw and nut drive mechanism. The mechanism comprises a motor (16), a gearbox (18) having a hollow output shaft (19), a coupling (17) coupling the motor to the gearbox, a fixed screw (10) disposed to pass with a clearance through the hollow shaft and in threaded engagement with a nut (10a) rigidly attached to an end of the shaft. Rotation of the shaft rotates the nut causing the nut (and associated sub-base (15)) to move up and down the screw. The mechanism is intended to serve as a drive for an elevator with the sub-base being attached to a cantilevered frame from which the elevator car or carriage is suspended. </p> |
