COMPOSITIONS CONTAINING ALKANNIN DERIVATIVES FOR TREATING SKIN DISORDERS The present invention provides a composition suitable for external application against skin disorders, e.g. Ulcus cruris, and having as its active ingredient a compound of the general formula wherein Y is hydrogen or -OX where X represents hydrogen, a carboxylic acid residue, or a derivative of a carboxylic acid residue, and R1 and R2 are alkyl groups. The compound in which X is the acetyl ester of the 3-methyl-3-hydroxy-butanecarboxylic acid residue is a novel compound which is exceptionally active. The active compounds can be extracted from plants in which they occur at a temperature not exceeding 80.degree.C. in an inert atmosphere in the substantial absence of light and oxygen.
