Recording material and method for the production of metallic images by information-wise photoexposure and peel-apart processing. In said material the adherence of a metal layer towards a photosensitive layer in unexposed state is stronger than towards the support so that by overall peeling-apart the exposed photosensitive layer from said support said metal layer can be detached from the support areas corresponding to unexposed areas of the said photosensitive binder layer. The photosensitive layer consists of or contains: (1) a photosensitive material that is capable of releasing CO2 gas on exposure to actinic radiation and/or (2) a photosensitive material that is capable of yielding a hydrohalic acid on exposure to actinic radiation.
