A pesticide which contains, as active ingredient, a phenylformamidine or salts thereof of the formula <IMAGE> in which R1, R2 and R3 denote in each case hydrogen, C1-C4-alkyl, halogen or trifluoromethyl. The use of these compositions for controlling various animal and plant pests is also described.
