PURPOSE:To feed molten glass of high quality independently of an increase in the amount of molten glass pulled up by putting a plurality of electrodes in the intermediate part of a vertical type melting section while bridging them between the opposite side wall parts and by reducing the distance between the electrodes. CONSTITUTION:An electrically melting furnace 10 for glass is composed of a melting section 11, a throat section 12, a riser section 13 and a feeder section 14 which communicate with each other in succession. The section 11 is well deepened vertical type tank, and a plurality of round rod electrodes 21, 22, 23, 24 are put in the intermediate part 112 of the section 11 while being bridged between the opposite side walls 1120. The electrodes are arranged equidistantly and almost horizontally with a short distance in-between. When a batch of starting material for glass charged into the upper part 111 of the section 11 passes through the electrodes 21-24 of the part 112, it is carried by hot eddies generated around the electrodes to form a closed hot layer, whereby a seminolten staring material in the upper part 111 is distinctly separated from a refined and homogenized layer in the lower part 113. |
