Before the actual thermographic printing, a surface (2) to be printed on is electrostatically charged and electrostatically coated with a powdered plastic. Thereafter, the plastic is permanently bonded to the base material by heating. When printing onto surfaces of materials which are not electrically conductive or are poorly electrically conductive, before heating a medium, for example an adhesive, which conducts electricity well is applied to the surface (2) to be printed on.
