Football matches are often taken by TV cameras (2) and recorded, and the recordings, played back in slow motion, subsequently allow particular situations in the match to be exactly judged. However, because of distortions of perspective, the picture taken by a TV camera (2) does not always enable the opposing positions of players on the pitch (1) to be exactly determined, and for this reason the presence of a referee on the pitch itself has been necessary until now. To enable the opposing positions of players to be exactly determined on a monitor screen (4), so that the referee can direct the match from the monitor (4), according to the invention a reference field (5), which is provided with a co-ordinate grid and is geometrically similar to the pitch (1), is taken by a second TV camera (6). The two takes are simultaneously recorded in a recording device (8) and can then be played back in slow motion on the monitor (4), superimposed on each other. <IMAGE>
